SAFARI ITINERARY
Altitude: 1,800 m – 2,835 m
Hiking distance: 10–11 km
Hiking time: 5–7 hours
Your adventure begins at Machame Gate after registration at Mount Kilimanjaro National Park. The trail immediately enters a magical rainforest filled with giant trees, vines, and tropical vegetation.
As you hike deeper, you will feel the excitement of your first steps on Africa’s highest mountain. The air is fresh, the forest is alive with birds and monkeys, and the trail gives a true wilderness experience. You end the day at Machame Camp, your first mountain night under the stars.
Altitude: 1,800 m – 2,835 m
Hiking distance: 10–11 km
Hiking time: 5–7 hours
Today the forest slowly changes into open moorland. Trees disappear and wide views of Kilimanjaro begin to appear. Giant lobelias and volcanic rocks dominate the landscape, showing you that you are climbing higher into the mountain world.
The air becomes cooler and thinner, but the scenery becomes more dramatic. This is an important acclimatization day that helps your body adjust safely.
Altitude: 2,835 m – 3,750 m
Hiking distance: 5–7 km
Hiking time: 4–6 hours
This is one of the most beautiful days on the mountain. You cross the Shira Plateau with wide, open views of the sky and volcanic landscapes.
The trail feels like walking on another planet, silent, powerful, and breathtaking. You gradually approach Barranco Camp, located in a dramatic valley below the famous Barranco Wall.
Altitude: 3,750 m – 3,960 m
Hiking distance: 10–12 km
Hiking time: 5–7 hours
Today begins with the exciting climb of the Barranco Wall, a steep but safe section that gives you confidence and incredible views at the top.
After the climb, the route continues through ridges and valleys. This day is not about speed but about enjoying altitude adaptation and preparing your body for the summit.
Altitude: 3,960 m – 4,035 m
Hiking distance: 5–6 km
Hiking time: 4–5 hours
The landscape becomes more harsh and alpine. Vegetation disappears, and you enter a cold, rocky desert environment.
Barafu Camp is your final base before the summit. Here, your guides prepare you mentally and physically for the biggest challenge of your life, the midnight climb to Uhuru Peak.
Altitude: 4,035 m – 4,673 m
Hiking distance: 4–5 km
Hiking time: 3–4 hours
This is the most emotional and rewarding day. You start your summit attempt at midnight under a sky full of stars. Step by step, you climb slowly toward Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa on Mount Kilimanjaro.
Reaching the summit is a life-changing moment, standing above the clouds as the sun rises over Africa. After celebrating, you descend carefully back to Barafu and continue to Mweka Camp for rest.
Altitude: 4,673 m – 5,895 m – 3,100 m
Hiking distance: 17–21 km
Hiking time: 12–15 hours
The final descent takes you back through the rainforest. The trail feels easier as oxygen increases and you reflect on your achievement.
At Mweka Gate, you receive your summit certificate and celebrate your successful Kilimanjaro climb before transfer back to Arusha or Moshi.
Altitude: 3,100 m – 1,640 m
Hiking distance: 8–10 km
Hiking time: 3–5 hours
