OVERVIEW

Tarangire National Park and Ngorongoro Crater together offer one of Tanzania’s most rewarding safari experiences. Tarangire is famous for its large elephant herds, ancient baobab trees, and diverse wildlife that gathers along the Tarangire River, especially during the dry season. The park’s open savannahs and scenic landscapes provide excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing and photography.

Ngorongoro Crater, a World Heritage Site, is a natural wonder formed from a collapsed volcanic caldera and supports an extraordinary concentration of wildlife year-round. Descending into the crater reveals a rich ecosystem where lions, elephants, buffalo, zebras, and the rare black rhino coexist in a breathtaking setting. Combined, Tarangire and Ngorongoro Crater create a perfect safari experience blending dramatic landscapes, abundant wildlife, and unforgettable game drives.

ITINERARY

Day 1: Arusha/Moshi to Tarangire National Park

Depart from Arusha/Moshi in a comfortable 4x4 safari vehicle after breakfast. Arrive at Tarangire National Park and enjoy an afternoon game drive. Explore the park’s vast savannahs, spotting large elephant herds, lions, giraffes, zebras, and wildebeest along the Tarangire River. Don’t miss the iconic baobab trees. Picnic lunch in the park and continue the game drive in the afternoon. Dinner and overnight at a lodge or camp near Tarangire.

Day 2: Tarangire to Ngorongoro Conservation Area

After breakfast, drive through the scenic landscapes of the Ngorongoro Highlands toward Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Stop along the way for photos and short walks if desired. Arrive near the crater for lunch at your lodge or camp. In the afternoon, enjoy a short game drive in the surrounding highlands or relax at the lodge. Dinner and overnight near the crater rim.

Day 3: Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha/Moshi

After an early breakfast, descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for a full-day game drive. Experience the crater’s extraordinary wildlife density, including elephants, lions, buffalo, zebras, hippos, and if lucky, the endangered black rhino. Enjoy a picnic lunch on the crater floor with breathtaking views. In the afternoon, ascend the crater and drive back to Arusha, arriving in the evening and concluding your safari with Nelwen Tours and Safaris.
